Description David Bell 2014-05-30 18:59:00 UTC
I have a presentation of say 50 slides. I am working through each slide adding speaker notes. After adding notes on one slide, I click on the next slide in the left navigation pane. The focus in the navigation pane jumps back to slide number 1 or 2 every time and then I have to scroll down to the next slide I want.

Trivial with a few slides; awful for a large presentation.

Successfully replicated on:
Hardware: Mac Book Pro 13'' with Retina display
OS: OS X 10.9.3
Open Office: 4.1.0

Simpler replication steps.

In order to replicate described behavior, minimal needed number of slides depends on the resolution of your screen.
For resolution 2560x1600 (mac book pro with retina display) minimal number of slides is 5.

Here is formula to calculate minimal number of needed slides:

When you reach a number of slides so all slides are not visible at the same time in the left slide navigation window.
Comment 3 Karlo Smid 2014-06-07 09:27:58 UTC
Bug advocacy using HICCUPPS consistency analysis.

Consistent with history?
No.
This behavior is not consistent with previous Open Office Version, 4.0.1. on Windows7
I could not replicate described behavior on that platform and version.
Why I did not try to replicate on Mac and OS X 10.9.3?
Because of this issue: 125067
When this issue will be resolved, I will try to replicate on OS X 10.9.3.

Consistent with OpenOffice project Image?
One of OpenOffice project wanted public Image is that it wants to be competitive product with comparable products: Microsoft Presentation and Google Docs presentation. In this context, wanted Image is that features that worked in previous release are still working in next release (see history consistency).

Consistent with Comparable Product?
No.
Comparable product is Google Docs Presentations which does not manifest described behavior.

Consistent with Claims?
Not applicable. I searched OpenOffice documentation, and there is no separate category about slide pane feature.

Consistent with user expectations?
No. Who is the user in this case? Anybody that creates presentation that consists of more that 10 slides. This is large number of OpenOffice community.

Consistent with product?
Not applicable.

Consistent with purpose?
Yes. User is still able to add speakers notes on every slide.

Consistent with statutes?
Not applicable.

Unable to try on my Mac with i5 core processor (64 bit) because there is no binary download of OpenOffice 4.0.1 for that platform.

I can also confirm this is an issue.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
AOO410m18(Build:9764) - Rev. 1589052

MacOs X 10.9.5

It is quite frustrating.

Upgraded to version 4.1.1

AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669
2014-08-13 09:05:42 (Wed, 13 Aug 2014)

And the issue still persists.

I have OpenOffice 4.1.1 and MacBook Pro OS X 10.10.2

I confirm that such issue exists. It is extremely frustrating when presentation has more than 20 slides.

Especially if I the presentation is ready and We will only try to add notes to each slide. Then after each added notes we have to change the slide from 1 to proper one.
Comment 9 wwawrzy 2015-03-14 22:37:40 UTC
I can reproduce this issue every time in such a way:

1. Create empty presentation and copy first slide to 50 slides.
2. Go to slide number 40.
3. Go to adding notes to slide
4. Enter into text frame (notes)

Then
Number of the slide in the bottom bar changes from 40 to 1.
After changing slide on the left panel the slide change to the one of the first slide of the presentation.

If some more info is needed (e.g., movie i can send it)

Best regards

Easy to confirm with just 3 slides.

1-Add at least 3 slides to new presentation.
2-Place any content in any of the slides (they cannot all be blank-must have something in at least one slide)
3-Now, the first time you click to go to 'Notes' in any slide, it will take you to the first slide.
Problem will not repeat until you add a new slide.

Using version 4.1.2
Comment 11 Lisandro 2016-07-11 00:01:12 UTC
“(Lisandro Montaño, 07/10/16) Posting some additions to previously detailed steps:

Worked with version 4.1.2 installed on Mac OS X 10.11.5 (El Capitan)

I was able to reproduce it following the steps mentioned in previous posts:

1.Start editing notes on Slide 1
2.Select Slide 2 from Left-Side Pane and edit the notes section
3.Keep selecting left-side pane slides until you need to scroll down, once you do it, it does not matter the next slide you choose, because you will be taken to slide 1.

My extra contribution to this problem is that once you get the problem reproduced due to the scroll up or down on left pane, you can also see the problem in different views:

1.Select any slide on left pane using Normal View, for example, Slide 30
2.Edit info in Slide 30
3.Go to Notes View and edit notes on Slide 30 (you should have no problem at this step)
4.Scroll to Notes section on another slide, for example, Slide 35 and add notes to it (still no problem)
5.Change view to Normal in order to edit Slide 35 and you will be immediately redirected to slide 1.

This problem will be reproduced every time you scroll left pane under Notes view, edit notes and change to Normal, Outline or Slide Sorter View. In every case, you will be redirected to slide 1 in the selected view.
