Steps how to reproduce Reproducible with "AOO 4.1.0 Release – German UI / German locale [AOO410m18(Build:9764)  -   Rev. 1589052 2014-04-22 11:43:54]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4. User Profile used for all predecessor versions:
0. Open attached sampled document 
1. Click blue Rectangle
2. Menu 'Modify → Convert → To Metafile'
   Expected: no bigger changes
   Actual: became invisible, because Layer has changed to Layout, what 
           is protected and invisible
  > For a test you can check visibility in Layout Layer Tab, rectagle will
     become visible
  > Same if convert to "Bitmap"

Already a problem with sample document and new document with sever installation of "OOo 3.3.0 English UI / German locale [OOO330m20 (Build 9567)]" on WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) DE

Looks as if the new created object does not get the layer info copied from the original. It may be worth to test more shape exchanging technics, all converters, also the mergers.

I wonder whether "Issue 123529 - Copy - Paste inserts shape to wrong layer "Layout" might have a mysterious relation to this one.

"alg" committed SVN revision 1605069 into trunk:
i124816 use correct layer for new object when converting

Found and corrected. Also checked mentioned issue 123529, could not reproduce. The question is if the edits there contained conversions (as here) or e.g. also removal of layers.
