Steps how to reproduce with "AOO 4.1.0 RC4 – German UI / German locale [AOO410m18(Build:9764)  -   Rev. 1589052 2014-04-22 11:43:54]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4. User Profile used for all predecessor versions:

1. Open blank new Calc document from AOO Start Center
2. Menu ÄFormat -> Page -> Header (Tab)  -> [Edit]'
3. Long click on Title (= File Name) Icon
   Pulldown with 3 items appears
4. Release mouse button
   Expected: pulldwon persists
   Actual: pulldwon disappears

Additional info:
(a) Workaround: drag mouse pointer to desired pulldown item between steps
    3 and 4 
(b) Not a new issue, already in OOo 3.3.0
(c) The behavior is not necessarily related to the unusual icon type, 
    works fine with 'AOO File dialog -> Folder Up (Icon)'

PS File - New - Master Document - Navigator - Insert -> pull down also disappears.
PPS IMHO long click feature should be changed - personally not encountered in other programs.

Has this ever worked differently?

I agree with Edwin that long clicks are not a widely used feature and should probably be done differently like a split button for e.g. font color in the text tool bar.

In Header / Footer Calc dialog that never worked correctly , see (a), I already that problem with OOo 1.1.5. But works in File dialog, see (c)

We have this long click feature for all icons with sub-selection, and I think we should not change that without very good reasons. Experienced users like me are used to it, might have accessibility impact and and and.

But those 2 Icons (and may be some very few additional ones should be repaced by the new standard icon wiht additonal selection field at the richgt (like the 'Paste' icon.) See "Issue 124763 - Replace old type Icons with Pulldowns"

Using Linux-32, AOO 4.1, locale en-US.

The reported behavior is what I am experiencing also. Personally, I wouldn't consider this a "defect". Maybe more of a design issue.
