Confirmed with Rev. 1520602 Win 7.
Comment 4 Rob Weir 2013-09-12 00:16:55 UTC
When I open the chart.xslx file in MS Office 2013 I get a message: "We found a problem with some content in 'charts.xlsx'. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes."

If I click Yes I get a dialog "Repairs to 'charts.xlsx'" saying:

"Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content. Removed Part:: /xl/drawings/drawing1.xml part. (Drawing shape)"

At that point the file renders, but without the charts, like the way AOO does.

This was with Microsoft Office 2013 on 64-bit Windows 8.

But it sounds like it worked OK for Edwin with Office 2007. Strange.

I observed the following on my 64bit Windows 7:
- opening the document in
-- AOO --> the same as reporter and Edwin have reported.
-- Microsoft Excel 2007 and Microsoft Excel 2010 --> fine, charts/images are shown
-- Microsoft Excel 2013 --> the same as Rob has reported.
- I opened the document in Microsoft Excel 2007 and saved it without any change. This saved document opens fine in AOO and Microsoft Excel 2013
