This is a test powerpoint file that was created with OpenOffice.org to view the issue use Microsoft Powerpoint or Powerpoint Viewer to open it. You'll see that the text's shadow is gray.

If a user saves an .ODP presentation with text that has shadows, the preset shadow color is black which is normal. However, if the same presentation is saved as a .PPT presentation (PowerPoint) the text shadows become gray when if the document is viewed with Microsoft Powerpoint or Powerpoint Viewer.

I would also like to add that this issue is present in both OpenOffice.org 3.3 for Windows and OpenOffice.org 3.3 for Mac OS X.

this issue is no P1

I was able to replicate the issue that the original reporter found - see steps and details below:
* Using OO v3.4 on Mac OS X v10.6.8 - MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB memory.
* Opened the saved .ppt files with Microsoft PowerPoint 2008 for Mac v12.3.3 (120411)

Steps to replicate the original bug as was reported:
1 - Under File > New > Presentation
2 - The Presentation Wizard is opened. Under Type, choose Empty Presentation. Click Next.
3 - Select a slide design. To match style of original file attached, select Blue Lines and Gradients.
4 - Select an output medium, use Screen (default). Click Next.
5 - Use default settings for Select a Slide Transition and Select the Presentation Type. Click Create.
6 - Enter text in the header area and slide content area.
7 - Add shadow effect to both blocks of text by selecting the Shadow item in the toolbar.
- - Expected result: Text display is white with a black drop shadow.
8 - (Optional) Save original file in .odp format.
9 - Select Save As... Select Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt). Open the saved .ppt file in PowerPoint.
- - Result - this matched the original bug: Text display is white with a greyish/white drop shadow

I ran several follow-up tests using different slide designs in an attempt to verify the original bug using different conditions:

1 - Select a different slide design (Characters with Glow) - drop shadow text display of black/grey (main text color/drop shadow) in both sections.
* Save as .ppt file and open in PowerPoint.
* Analysis: This did NOT replicate the original bug - text displayed correctly.

2 - Next, select another different slide design (Lyt Ocean) - drop shadow text display of black/grey in the header (white background), and white/black (blue background) in the slide content area.
* Save as .ppt file and opened in PowerPoint.
* The header text displayed correctly BUT the slide content text displayed the same drop shadow text bug - white/white.
* Analysis: This replicated the original bug in the slide content area.

3 - Select another different slide design (Lyt Sunrise) - drop shadow text display of blue/black in the header, and black/grey in the slide content area (tan background on entire slide).
* Save as .ppt file and opened in PowerPoint.
* The header text displayed incorrectly - blue/white.
* The slide content text displayed incorrectly - black/white.
* Analysis: This replicated the original bug in both areas.

4 - One last variant on the last test - Change the OO font to a common system font (Arial) and resave it as .ppt file.
* Analysis: This replicated the original bug in both areas.

Conclusion: My evaluation is that this is a legitimate bug since I was able to replicate it twice using different conditions. I suspect there may be a bug in the color conversion codes where OOo reads these differently than PowerPoint does.

I can reproduce the issue with the ODP attachement provided by Michael.

Build: Aoo_trunk 1376366
1. open the .odp file in Aoo
2. Save as .ppt
3. open the .ppt in MS 2003. Zoom to 150% then I can see clearly that the shadow is gray.

while open the .ppt in Aoo, the shadow is black

Hello!

Thank you guys for confirming this bug in OpenOffice 3.3 and later. However, I would like to stress that this bug is still present in AOO 3.4.0 and the recently released 3.4.1.

Again thanks for your diligence on this matter!

Thanks Jim for confirming this long standing bug!
