Math Problems Not Appearing in Mac version

You can see this by clicking the apple emblem in the upper left corner of the screen on your mac, then "about this mac" then "more info…". Please provide the complete contents of the "Software" field 3 Please provide the hardware makes and models of both the Mac and the PC in question. 4 You mention that the equations are viewable on the PC, but not on the Mac. Could you possibly provide a side-by-side example of a given equation, potentially using the Grab utility on the Mac and a screen capture on the PC? This may better communicate what "viewable" means to you. 5 There appears to have been no activity on this bug since 2011-07-06. Are your still experiencing this issue?
In replicating this bug with Sully, I note the following. I am on OOo 3.4 (build 9583) on a Windows 7 system (Windows Ultimate Service Pack 1). He is on a Mac OS/X Lion 10.7.3 build 11D50b running OOo 3.4.0m0 build 9583. What we see on my screen (Windows) is a well-formatted list of answers. For example the first entry in the set appears to be -45 degrees. However, the dash in front of the 45 is in Symbol font instead of Times. One the PC, I see an em-dash. Sully sees a graphical character instead. This is a pretty common problem between Mac and PC documents when dealing with Symbol (and similar) character sets. Sully is now opening the file in GoogleDocs. When he uploads to GoogleDocs, he does not have Google transform the doc to their format. Then he views it and the result looks just like what I see on my PC. Perhaps a more interesting test would be to see what happens when the doc is viewed in MS Word for Mac, but neither of us has that software available. Summary: Characters in SYMBOL set, saved in a .DOC format, appear different in Windows OOo 3.4.0 from Mac OOo 3.4.0. This may or may not be a bug. // Cem & Patrick (Sully)

I replicated the behavior that matt is describing using the OOo version 3.4.1 build 9590 using a mac OS/X Lion 10.4.7. On the first entry, instead of seeing -45 degrees I got a square with an 'X' inside, instead of the negative sign then the 45 and a tilde instead of the degrees symbol. same behavior occurred throughout the whole document. I could not see any negative or positive symbol nor the degree symbol, but the diagram at the bottom was displayed properly. I ran the same document on Pages which is Mac text editing software and I got a different output, I could see everything but the last diagram, and there was a blank page after each heading. Also this document was tested on a Windows 7 professional edition service pack 1 machine with Word 2010 and OOo version 3.4.1 when the document was opened in OO the diagram was disoriented and the fractions were misaligned, then when the document was opened in Word 2010 everything was fine. So my assumption is that this is more a compatibility issue between the software developers and not only between Mac and PC.
I replicated this with Bernardo. He has a Mac laptop and a PC laptop. His Mac has OOo and Pages, but not MS Office. My laptop is a 64-bit windows 7 with many typefaces. On my Windows machine, I see essentially the same document in OOo and Word, whether I look at the original .doc file or a save-as to .docx. I note that it appears that the text was laid out in word in the equation editor. Bernardo sees differences in Windows OOo and Word, suggesting that the available typefaces on his machine might be different from mine. Switching from one character set to another (select all, change the character set) changes the glyphs displayed in the document, as the higher-ASCII character assignments change. On his Mac, OOo displays the text differently from OOo or Word on my Windows machine. Pages displays the text almost the same as on my machine. I suspect that this is a system/font-handling problem and not a problem in OOo.
By the way, Bernardo illustrates something relevant to this project. The initial file is a Word file. The display of the same file is different on his Windows machine (Word 2010) from my Windows machine (Word 2010, but probably a different set of available fonts). So this is a display problem from word (.doc) to word (.docx). How is this an OpenOffice bug?
I replicated the behavior described with version 10.14.6 of Mac OS Mojave. I looked at the entries and they matched up with the expected entries. They opened in Microsoft Word and the test answers were shown. A simple way to replicate this is simply to click on the attachment and open it up in whichever application seems fit. This bug is important because it is critical documents like these do not open differently based on the operating system or browser. They should open and look the exact same. Customers should not be forced to buy or borrow another laptop/PC simply to run this document.
