Description psychonaut 2010-12-16 14:00:30 UTC
When saving a spreadsheet as Text CSV (.csv), the "Edit filter settings"
checkbox is always greyed out. There is no way of checking or unchecking the box.

Whether or not the filter settings dialog actually appears seems to depend on
the current format of the spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet is a CSV file, then
the filter settings dialog will not appear. This makes it impossible to re-save
a CSV spreadsheet with different delimiters. However, if the spreadsheet is an
ODS or XLS file, the filter settings dialog will appear.

Reproducibility: Always

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an XLS or ODS spreadsheet.
2. File->Save As
3. Filter->Text CSV. At this point the "Edit filter settings" box remains
greyed out and unchecked. It ought to be checked (though probably still greyed
out, since the user should always specify the filter settings when converting to
CSV).
4. Save. Now the filter settings dialog appears, contrary to what the user had
been led to believe by the unchecked "Edit filter settings" box.

OR

1. Open a CSV spreadsheet.
2. File->Save As
3. Filter->Text CSV
4. Filter->Text CSV. At this point the "Edit filter settings" box remains
greyed out and unchecked. It ought to be active so that the user can check the
box in case he wants to use different settings.
5. Save. The filter settings dialog fails to appear; there is no way of saving
the spreadsheet with a different delimiter.

Edit filter settings check box is enabled but has no meaning.
Either unchecked or checked, after Save - Export Text File dialog window appears.

Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2014-03-26 06:58:10 UTC
Original report is NOT reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.1.0-dev – English UI / German locale - [AOO410m14(Build:9760) - Rev. 1577236 2014-03-15]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile: Checkbox can be checked or unchecked, and "Edit filter settings" only appears if checked or if necessary (saved as .csv from .ods)

Linux only? Fixed?

@Edwin Sharp
Your observation that filter settings dialog also appears with unchecked options for me only is reproducible when I save the document the first time as .csv from .ods, and that is useful, probably intended. But it would be a bug if the dialog appears if you save the .csv again after a small edit although option is unchecked. Can you please add a comment for this?
Comment 3 Rainer Bielefeld 2014-03-26 07:04:46 UTC
NOT reproducible with sever installation of "OOo 3.2.1 English UI / German locale [OOO320m18 (Build 9502)]" on WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) DE

Also NOT reproducible with LibO 3.5.7.2 Build 350m1(Build:2) on UBUNTU Linux 12.04 x64 (VirtualBox).

Old Linux Versions only?
Comment 4 Edwin Sharp 2014-03-26 13:07:29 UTC
Comment 1 valid with
AOO410m14(Build:9760)  -  Rev. 1573062
2014-03-01_04:11:01 - Rev. 1573123
Debian
Bug 1: When fresh document is saved as CSV, Export Text File dialog appears despite Edit filter settings being unchecked.
Bug 2: When existing CSV is saved as another name, Export Text File dialog is missing - save as action implies a possibility for different delimiters - relying on user to check Edit filter settings is problematic.
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld 2014-03-26 13:53:13 UTC
BTW: I should have mentioned did all tests with active AOO File dialogs. But with 4.0.1 there is no difference between dialogs.

Reasons for IRREPRODUCIBE see below.

@Edwin Sharp:
General: all Comment 4 is unreleated to reporter's "Edit filter settings
checkbox is always greyed out and inactive" report. So IRREPRODUCIBLE

Your Bug 1
is not a real bug, but intended behavior, because you need to define (or at least check) the CSV export settings. But indeed, it would be better to see the Checkbox greyed with checkmark so that user knows that filter dialog will appear. I reported "Issue 124517 - File Save Dialog Checkbox "Edit CSV Filter Settings": should be 'checked inactive' if it will appear inevitably"

Your Bug 2
I don't understand that argument. If checkmark is unchecked you can't expect that dialog appears - or do you
