Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 111444
OLE "Display As Icon" not showing icon for PDF documents
Last modified: 2010-05-25 18:16:02 UTC
On inserting a pdf document to an odt document as OLE object and selecting "Display as Icon" option, the icon does not appear in the dialog box and also in the document. In place of the icon, text "Adobe Acrobat Document" is displayed. The pdf document opens up on clicking on this text. My users need this icon as it looks unprofesional without the icon.
Created attachment 69349 [details] .doc file containg the screenshot and also the problem .odt file.
First, I cannot confirm this - it works fine on my XP prof and Win7. Second, the dialog used for inserting "as Icon" is taken from the system, it is not an OOo-dialog. It looks that this dialog is broken on your system.
Closed, a problem with the mentioned dialog cannot be fixed by us.
mru, thanks for the attention. You have closed the issue only considering the dialog box. What about the icon not appearing in the document? I have been promoting OOO in my office as a replacement of MS Office and this issue is coming as a show stopper for me. I can't take it that the installation on all the machines in my network are broken. The icon is not appearing on any of the XP boxes that I have. Request you to spend some more time before closing the issue. Thank you so much
To add one more piece of information, MS Word is showing pdf icons correctly on the same set of systems (for pdf documents embedded in .doc files).
I have checked it on three different Windows systems and all showed the icons correctly in the dialog AND in the document. I can't tell you why the association between PDF document and icon does not work on your system. MS Word uses its own dialog for this, so it cannot be compared to OOo in this point. You could check if it works with Wordpad - this uses also the system's dialog.
mru, wordpad is also not showing the icon. Any suggestion?
Yes, your system didn't register those icons correctly. Ask for help at for help in the Microsoft or Adobe (?) support forums
