Description aa48 2010-03-08 01:35:09 UTC
Hi,

I have a laptop which up until recently was happily running OpenOffice 2.4
I upgraded to 3.1 as my office keeps sending me xlsx files but after
installing, everytime I open any file or even just open any of the OpenOffice
apps, I get two error messages pop up. First says:

Error saving the document
file:///C:/Programs%20Files/OpenOffice.org1.1.4/user/basic/script.xlc/:
General Error.
General input/output error

The second error message says:

Error saving the document
file:///C:/Programs%20Files/OpenOffice.org1.1.4/user/basic/dialog.xlc/:
General Error.
General input/output error

Now this isn't really a problem, more an inconvience.

I hope someone can give me a fix.
I have tried uninstalling all versions of Open Office using Add/Remove
Programs. Then deleting all the folders in C:Program Files related to Open
Office. And then Deleting the Open Office program markers from the Start\All
Programs menu.

Then carried a fresh install from a fresh download of Open Office 3.2 hoping it
would clear this fault but it hasn't.

Has anyone got any ideas?

The version of XP is Windows XP Professional.
The Laptop is a Panasonic CF-52 Toughbook.

Sorry, I stand corrected.

First error message says:

Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/Documents%20and%
20Settings/engineer/Application%
20Data/OpenOffice.org/3/user/basic/Standard/script.xlb/:General Error.
General Input/Output Error

Second error message says:

Error loading BASIC of document file:///C:/Documents%20and%
20Settings/engineer/Application%
20Data/OpenOffice.org/3/user/basic/Standard/dialog.xlb/:General Error.
General Input/Output Error

Sorry for the mix up.

->aa48: Could you see if the files OOo tries to load are there and OK?

->Andreas: Do you know of any issue like this?
Comment 5 aa48 2010-03-08 10:43:19 UTC
Nope, both files are missing.
Although in the Basic folder there is dialog.xlc and script.xlc

I guess that is why the error is happening.
Comment 6 kay.ramme 2010-03-09 12:21:14 UTC
Andreas, any idea why these files could be missing?
Comment 7 ab 2010-03-09 12:47:03 UTC
I assume this is a duplicate of an old issue that never really has been understood:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59890

The problem is that the error messages are correct, the files *are* missing.
But why they are missing isn't reproducible any more.

ab->aa48: The problem is located in the user installation. If you delete both
the old (if still existing) and the new one, restarting the Office should lead to
a clean installation. If necessary (e.g. if you don't want to loose your user in-
stallation) I can also attach you empty script.xlb and dialog.xlb to this issue.

Set to duplicate of issue 59890

I have found another OpenOffice folder in Application Data called
OpenOffice.org2 inside this folder lies the same path to the Standard folder
which contains the two missing files. I have copied and pasted these files into
the Standard folder of the OpenOffice.org folder. The error messages have now
stopped.

Thanx for pointing me in the right direction.
