Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109228
Scatter type chart line is messed up if the lines are smoothed
Last modified: 2010-02-17 23:05:19 UTC
As this bug tracker doesn't seem to support the attachments (no, really, wtf), see the example ods and png image here: http://bugpipe.org/bugs/oo-scatter-smooth/ and notice the hook on the graph, that most definitely should not be there.

(oh, so you CAN attach the files. just after saving. why tell about it, because, who would need to know that, anyway?)
The hook in the curve is correct for a spline. But it seems, that you do not expect a spline but an interpolation with a function. Splines in OOo are 2D curves, so that you can get an oval from some points for example. A spline is always calculated from all points, so it is global. In your case the first point influences the whole spline curve and produces this hook. The way OOo smooths is different from the way Excel does it. In Excel smoothing is a local property of approximately 4 neighbored points. There is already the feature request in issue 48012, to implement a similar interpolation in OOo, but no one has provided a good algorithm till now. So I will close this issue as duplicate of issue 48012. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 48012 ***
closing, problem is already tracked in issue 48012.
