Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 107641
embedding/linking a picture - default is inconsistent
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:01:15 UTC
If I drag-and-drop an image file into an openoffice document it is inserted as a "linked" picture. If I use Insert-Picture-From File, the default is to embed the picture (i.e. by default the "linked" box is unchecked). This behaviour is inconsistent.
In the new version (3.3, PC version) this is now sort of resolved which leads to another defect: When dragging and dropping the pictures will always be embedded (on PC version)! Even if I press a modifier key (i.e CTRL) (Plus sign appears) they will always be embedded. This is highly annoying when trying to link to a lot of pictures as now I have to go trough the dialogue boxes to add each single image... (So it solves sort of the inconsistency issues...)
> In the new version (3.3, PC version) this is now sort of resolved Oh, you're right. I'm running 3.2 now, but either it is fixed or I was mistaken about it. There is no permanent "default" when using Insert-Picture-From File. It defaults to whichever option was last used. > Even if I press a modifier key (i.e CTRL) (Plus sign appears) they will always be embedded. On my (linux) system Ctrl-Shift-drag (not Ctrl-drag) links the picture in Writer or Calc - have you tried it? But it looks like there is a bug that is kind of the opposite of what you described: in Draw and Impress the picture is always linked, even though the link symbol is only shown when I use Ctrl-Shift-drag, (a + symbol is shown otherwise). There is also a very minor issue: Shift-drag behaves the same as dragging with Ctrl or no modifier, except the + icon is not shown. --------- Interesting: I notice the filesize is slightly smaller if a picture is dragged-and-dropped rather than inserted via the dialogue. This is because a blank white thumbnail is stored, instead of a thumbnail of the actual picture.
I think this should be resolved as "Worksforme". But am I supposed to do that if I haven't read the code and found "no clues as to why this behavior would occur"?
