Description brian12354 2009-12-02 04:04:50 UTC
Hello,

I was trying to import a table from this URL
(http://www.euronext.com/forourclient/mbs/market/list-1663-EN.html). When I go
to Insert>Link to External Data & provide that URL, Open Office locks up & never
returns.

This issue seems 100% reproducible.

There is the same issue on my Debian.
Using OOo version 3.1.1 OOO310m19 (Build:9420)

It takes very long time, so calc looks like dead.

Insert - Link to External Data... -> OK button disabled after URL of external data source is entered.

Rev. 1479897 Win 7
Comment 3 hanya 2013-05-15 17:50:50 UTC
Copy and paste the URL in Comment 1 into the field on External Data dialog.
Then push Enter key in the field or choose the one from the combobox.
Wait some seconds..., then Import Options dialog is shown.
Push OK button. List of available tables is updated.
Choose one from the list, for example HTML_1.
OK button is enabled, click it. After some seconds, the table is shown on the sheet. On AOO400m1(Build:9700) - Rev. 1478651, Xubuntu 12.04.
Comment 4 Ariel Constenla-Haile 2013-05-15 18:23:04 UTC
Note that this is broken in 3.4.1 due to bugs in serf and webdav ucp, but is working fine in 4.0.0
Comment 5 Edwin Sharp 2013-05-15 19:42:26 UTC
External Data window text:

Change from:
"Enter the URL of the source document in the local file system or Internet here."

To:
"Enter URL, press Enter and wait."

This bug occurs in AOO 4.0 build 1491860 running on Xubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 also on the same build running on Windows XP SP2. On Windows it blows up in msvcr90.dll.

There is some dscussion in forum threads

Crash at Rev. 1491860 Win 7.

It was working in Rev. 1479897 Win 7 after the explanation received in comment 3.
After which I suggested updating the help text in comment 5.
Comment 8 roryof 2013-06-23 11:04:55 UTC
I had already been using the method outlined by Hanya in comment 3 and did recheck all my actions, using installations on several computers. None of these worked for me. If you check the Forum threads I indicated, they show that others have had the same problem. I shall be off-line for some weeks and will return to this problem mid July, when I will make a test setup of an out of the box Xubuntu (or othe Ubuntu) install and an out of the box AOO 3.4 install, progressing to AOO 4.0, to see what is or is not happening.
Comment 9 roryof 2013-06-24 16:38:05 UTC
On another computer with Ubuntu 12.04 and AOO 3.4.1 I was able to get the Link to External Data to work. I needed to insert the http:// in the URL to get it recognised.

I then removed OpenOffice 3.4,1 entirely, using Synaptic, and installed AOO 4.0 (9701 1491860). Link to External Data failed on this version; the underlying Operating System had not been changed, apart from whatever files AOO 4.0 might add/alter.
Comment 10 Francis C. Costero 2013-06-25 12:37:00 UTC
My OpenOffice 4.0 (AOO400m2(Build:9701) - Rev. 1491860) crashes every time I try to link to external data. I'm using Windows XP. The same links work in 3.4.1.
Comment 11 Francis C. Costero 2013-06-25 12:40:27 UTC
Sorry, I hit Save Changes too quickly. To me there appears to be a regression in 4.0 and this is no longer a Trivial - Enhancement bug.
Comment 12 Ariel Constenla-Haile 2013-06-25 14:04:27 UTC
The original bug is from 2009, it should simply be closed: it was reported against an implementation that is now completely different after the neon library removal.

As for the crash, it is documented in bug 122591
Comment 13 Edwin Sharp 2013-07-24 15:30:13 UTC
Not working in Rev. 1502185 Debian.

URL -> Enter -> freeze.

Still occurs in 4.1.11

1) Open a new spreadsheet document
2) Menu Insert > Link to external data...
3) In dialogbox, input URL: https://www.boursorama.com/bourse/indices/cours/1rPCAC/
4) Press Enter
Got an error
"The host name www.boursorama.com could not be resolved."
