Description petethesweet 2009-06-18 12:24:41 UTC
1. In Writer open a new document and enter a few lines of arbitrary text, including long words (to make
effect more obvious).
2. Format the paragraph as "justified" (e.g. use the "Justified" button from the formatting toolbar or
through Format | Paragraph | Alignment | Justified)
3. Add some more text in this paragraph with preferably long words.
4. Position cursor in changed line. Either with mouse or with keyboard. Cursor does not match letter
boundaries. Makes editing difficult.

I have checked for duplicates and found http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=91390
which is closed.

Does not show up in OOO300m15 (Build;9379) on Solaris10.

I meant an odt document in order to reproduce this problem.
Also please mention if this occurs with every fonts or name those which are
affected.

I attached sample .odt document. See line 7 or line 18 with fonts Courier and Arial, resp.

I checked a few other fonts with the same result. The effect is most obvious when the text is changed
*after* the font for the paragraph is changed:

1. select sample paragraph
2. change font
3. edit a line of the paragraph (enter longwordswithoutspaces)
4. move cursor...

Comment 7 eric.savary 2009-06-18 14:21:09 UTC
@HDU: Reproducible as described. (300m50)
Comment 8 hdu@apache.org 2009-06-23 12:34:24 UTC
I'm wondering if this is a regression, as the related problem in issue 91183 was fixed for OOo3.0.1.
Comment 9 Loria 2009-11-23 18:53:09 UTC
I could reproduce this on:
3.1.1 Build 9420 (Intel AND PPC Version)

Is there need for a Demodocument ?

I checked with 3.3.0 m13 (B:9539) x86 running on OSX snow leo 10.6.4:

I am still seeing the misalignment of cursor and selection. I used two fonts for
this test. Cursor is placed into the symbol.
I am able to submit a document, if it is needed ?

Loria
PS: I will post a note about the ppc version as soon as I am able to.
Comment 12 Loria 2010-11-01 18:25:07 UTC
OOO330m13 (B 9539) on ppc(g4) on 10.5.8 is also having this problem.
Comment 13 Loria 2010-11-01 19:12:51 UTC
(on the PPC, Mac OS X 10.5 Update 8 is still not installed)
Comment 14 Loria 2010-11-01 19:13:48 UTC
(on the x86, Java Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3 is still not installed)
Comment 15 Loria 2010-11-01 19:34:29 UTC
(Sorry about the one line comments, but I could not edit them anymore)

Since I am using this justified mode (Blocksatz) for some little magizine.
So this Problem hits me everytime I need to edit parts of the text. So it would
be nice to get this fixed :) Life woulde be a lot easier :)

I also have this problem, and it was present in previous OpenOffice versions, too. OO Writer 4.1. Windows 7, Intel, Lenovo Thinkpad. I am using Times New Roman font 10 point, but it shows up in every font/size alternative I tried.

It seems to show up particularly in longer documents. I think the problem should be considered serious because it threatens to make the entire Writer application unusable.
Comment 17 gilles 2015-06-11 16:16:02 UTC
Happens irregularly with all OpenOffice versions for MacOSX i've used so far, with left-flushed text, usual fonts.
Very very bad problem which makes people completely crazy and go for Windows office (i'm also tempted).
