Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 102369
hiding columns has no effect to chart
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:20:05 UTC
Hi, creating a chart, based on several columns and hide later some of the columns, does not hide the lines/bars in the chart. In OO 2.0 to 3.0 the function exists. I need this function because I generate per macro from a database charts automatically and the user has the option to hide some lines/bars per API code from the chart to get a better overview. Also the manual test has the same effect. P.S. ...Is there a possibility to predefine globally the line width for the whole chart before creating it?
I did a quick test with a line chart with "2.4.1 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [680m17(Build9310)]" and can confirm that hiding columns has no effect to the shown lines in the chart, but I doubt that it should have. No Idea what reporter is talking about here. @sarotti: please read our guidelines on <http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html> and <http://www.openoffice.org/bugs/bug_writing_guidelines.html>, then contribute a clear step by step instruction containing all observations (error messages ...), _every_key_press_and_every_mouse_click_ how to reproduce the problem, and explain why you believe that your results are unexpected. That means (for example): do not write something like „I am not able to ...“, but „6. left mouse click on … expected: …, color of … changes, … actual: no …., color remains white, no …

O.K. ..I try to explain it once again (and I sent before a pdf file to show you what I mean) - the data in a spreadsheet of calc: columns A to F - create a line chart with this data column A:F - In the chart you´ll see 6 lines (A to F) based on the columns - hide column E and F - normally the result was two lines are also hidden in the chart - in version 3.1 (I used before2.0) there is no effect on the chart - the lines of the hidden column E and F are still shown in the chart ...hope you can reproduce now my problem
Which version exactly do not show the hidden columns? In OOo2.4.2 and DEV300m48 they are shown. But I think, that there is no need for doing anything here, because the behavior will be made configurable, see issue 91578. So I like to set the issue as duplicate of issue 91758. Objections?
No objections. But I would be really interested in a sample file, I have 2.0.2 still available here.

@regina: Great help for an old man to get such samples with delivery free domicile ;-) What were your results? "i102369 hide column.ods" showed all 4 lines in chart with all my OOo versions. With "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and "i102369 hide column.ods" (and my own sample files) it was possible to hide a line in the chart by hiding the referenced column in the data table. After I opened "i102369 hide column.ods" with 2.0.2, I had to press <F9> to hide the line for column "b". Only 2.0.2 (and earlier?) and 1.1.4 show this "friendly bug"(?) that lines of hidden columns disappear in chart.
