Description cdevidal2 2004-03-11 17:12:01 UTC
This morning I opened a document created on an unknown version of MS Office that
was supposed to have highlighting but I couldn't see any.

So I tested this by creating a document (in the URL) in OpenOffice, highlighting
it, and then opening it in MS Office XP. I then removed the OpenOffice
highlighting on the second half of the word "Testing" in MS Office XP and
replaced it with MS Office XP highlighting.

Now, only the first part of the word "Testing" shows highlighting in OpenOffice,
while the entire word is highlighted in MS Office XP. See the document in the URL.

Oddly, I also tried creating a fresh document in MS Office XP and highlighted a
word. OpenOffice can see all highlighting. So this might be a versioning
issue. Dunno.

Hm, unfortunately I've no access to the mentioned link.
But: there are two ways of creating highlighting in Word: one via Button
"Highlight" in the Toolbar, another via "Format/Borders and Shading". Sounds
like Writer mixing up something there.
Thus I think this is a duplicate to issue 24317.

Oops, permissions of the file in the URL were incorrect. You can open it now.

I had reviewed issue #24317 before submitting this issue and I didn't believe it
was the same, and I put "FROM DOC" in the Summary with "FROM" in capital
letters, emphasizing that when something is highlighted in Word it appears
normal in OOo, unlike in issue #24317.

In some cases this is a rather serious problem. For example, I noticed the
problem when I sent a manufacturer a list of their products, asking which met my
specifications. She sent it back, saying "I've highlighted the products that
meet your specification." In this case, the document was _completely_unusable_
in OOo, as it showed exactly the same list I had originally sent to her. I had
to open it in MS Office (which I loathe to do) to see what she intended me to see.

Please review the file in the URL. If you do so and see that my issue is not a
dupe of #24317, please reopen this ticket.

Thanks!
