Description

Async multi is available in 3.5 branch, but this is currently alpha, and doesn't look like it'll be GA in the next 6 months.

I've run into a few cases where async multi would be really useful, but we want to stick with a GA client. Thus, I'm going to backport Sijie's patch to 3.4.
