SQL Ref Man, section 5.8.2
CHAR[ACTER] [(length [CHARACTERS])] [_char-set_] [UPSHIFT] [[NOT]CASESPECIFIC]

CHAR[ACTER] VARYING(length) [CHARACTERS][_char-set_] [UPSHIFT] et al

First entry has "CHARACTERS" properly inside the parens. All the others show it outside the parens. All should depict ( <length> CHARACTERS )
