Rust library, tutorial, test, cross-test code should not throw any clippy errors

When the rust code was originally written one could run cargo clippy on it without any errors. As Rust has changed in the last 24 versions this is no longer true.

We should run clippy on all the lib, test, tutorial and cross-test code to get it into a proper state for further work.
