      Description

In Solr 4.3.1 (possibly greater) there is no 'date' column in the Log viewer in the Web UI.

This means the user is unable to determine what day a log line occurred on without looking at the real logs, making the tool less useful for troubleshooting.

This appears to be the case in 4.4.0 as well. I caused an error on the 4.4 example so there would be something in the log. There is a "Time" column, but it appears to only include HH:MM:SS, not the full date.

perhaps that's another one out of the "not obvious" things .. if you mouse-over, you see the full in a tooltip ;o don't remember if there was a reason for doing it like this - instead of showing the full date .. should be a quick thing to change

That patch uses toLocaleString - which for me looks like this: "8/27/2013 9:18:28 AM", reflects your local timezone (remember, it's your browser, running on your computer .. with your locale settings, not the servers"

otherwise we can have toISOString which shows the date/time in typical ISO Format, using UTC: "2013-08-27T07:18:28.315Z"

Let me know which one you'd like to see there

+1 for displaying UTC time. Since that's what's in the index, I think it would be less confusing...

        FWIW,

Typically default logging on a server (syslog, probably the log4j config in solr as well) is in local time, so my gut instinct is that the UI logging should be local time. I'd go along with whatever consensus is, though.

I actually don't use the log entries in the UI often - they don't show anything at INFO. The only thing that I ever really do with the UI is change the root logging level and occasionally the level on one or more of the class categories.

I'm guessing there is no way to display the time the log logged? If that's not possible my enterprise voice says UTC, and my general user voice says local time. So I guess I vote for both .

I wouldn't know how .. what the UI gets is something like time: "2013-10-01T04:08:48.9Z", maybe different if you run the Solr Instance in/with your current TZ.

Perhaps we can do a sample "Show that dates in my local TZ" Button to switch from UTC (and back ..) - that shouldn't be that hard.

I think a Local/GMT button in the UI would be perfect, great idea.

Updated Patch, includes Handling of Timezone Switch (Local/UTC). Will clean this up a bit and then commit it.
