[SLING-8755] Exception when empty value with a type hint other than string is posted

Description

With the changes in SLING-2534, posting an empty value with a type hint other than string (for example Long) results in an exception thrown as the empty value is tried to be coerced into that type.
We should probably restore the behaviour for all types other than string as of before SLING-2534
