Description

The engine has grown over time and has been rewritten partially. As not all code has been rewritten, the unchanged parts make assumptions which hold now longer try: for example code still expects null to be returned by some method while that no longer applies etc.
In addition we should replace usage of commons.osgi with the OSGi converter
