Samza is a stream processing framework able that runs atop Apache Kafka (among other possible systems). The name itself is a reference to Gregor Samsa, a character in Franz Kafka's public domain work, Die Verwandlung (The Metamorphosis). The final s was changed to a z to make the name more distinctive while keeping the connection to Apache Kafka.
