      Description

It would be nice to add a dependency parser component to OpenNLP.

State of the art shouldn't necessarily be the criteria.

There are multiple versions of MST floating around out there with different licenses (BSD, Apache, EPL). Unfortunately, (1) it uses trove which is GPL and (2) there were a bunch of bugs and improvements made in https://github.com/travisbrown/mstparser but I don't think it got merged back in and the license got switched to EPL. So it's not source compatible with ASLv2. Could ask Travis about fixing the EPL thing but will need to be some changes to get rid of the trove usage.

We should check if it contain parts we could us, e.g. code to parse data formats or evaluation code.

The mstparser has a compatible license. I've talked to its authors once about contributing it to OpenNLP. They said it was no longer state-of-the-art and might be more of historical interested than anything else. But if OpenNLP is interested, they might be open to contribute the code.

We could speak to the developers of one of the existing parses if they would be interested to contribute their work.
