Most of my applications fail to compile against 0.8.6

It looks as if this is because (at least one reason anyway) the Version class has changed or gone away.

The README file should clearly describe these types of changes so that I do not have to read the Javadoc to try and find out what has been changed.

I would suggest you re-release 0.8.6 with a better README file.
