On this project's summary page we read:

Maven Release Plugin NOTE GIT users are adviced not to use 2.4 but 2.3.2 instead!

As far as I know version 2.5.2 supports GIT just fine. If that is indeed the case, then the message should be updated to point people to the 2.5 release line.
