[MNG-6749] Maven 3.x fails when following 301 redirects

Description

Hello there, my team uses Maven 3.0.3 and 3.3.9 and has ran into this issue where maven fails to follow HTTP 301 redirections. Instead Maven receives the HTTP error code and tries to copy it as if it were a jar file.

 

We do know that this is a duplicate of the issue described in https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WAGON-314; however, we are reopening it to bring it to your attention as that issue only fixed the probably in Maven version 2.2.0. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-4816 also seems to have been opened to address this regression of not supporting http redirects. Both of these tickets are many years old, so we hoped to surface this problem through a new ticket to get a fresh set of eyes on the issue.
