      if (!getAllowLeadingWildcard() && hasLeadingWildcard)
      throw new ParseException("'*' or '?' not allowed as first character in WildcardQuery");

      if (getLowercaseExpandedTerms())

      { useTermStr = useTermStr.toLowerCase(); }

      if (hasLeadingWildcard)
