If you look at the AsyncAppender example it has a lower case 'p' in the closing "Pattern"
<Pattern>%d %p %c

{1.} [%t] %m%n</pattern>

Should be:
<Pattern>%d %p %c{1.}

[%t] %m%n</Pattern>
