Investigate autocommit retry logic

    Description

      This is purely an investigation ticket.

      Currently, we send an autocommit only if there isn't an inflight one; however, this logic might not be correct because I think we should:

      1. expires the request if it is not completed in time
      2. always send an autocommit on the clock
