It works for me (unlike 2.2.0RC2 which did only work when starting from inside the bin/ directory)

Before committing the change, I had tested it. My configuration here IS using:

        <!DOCTYPE config [
        <!ENTITY listserverConfig SYSTEM "../conf/james-listmanager.xml">
        <!ENTITY listserverStores SYSTEM "../conf/james-liststores.xml">
        <!ENTITY fetchmailConfig SYSTEM "../conf/james-fetchmail.xml">
        ]>

And the lists ARE working. Are you saying that the above does not work for you?

Should have said that I have committed a change which reverts the ENTITY declarations back to their working forms.

I have left the issue open with the expectation to revisit after 2.2.0 release.

Bit of a misunderstanding here, which is my fault for not being clear. I entered this as something to look at based on a suggestion from the community.

I had no intention to apply the suggestion without further investigation, which is why the fix version was not set.

Unfortunately, the suggestion is wrong. The previous version may not be optimal but does work.

By the way, the list manager and list stores are also affected by this change.
