[JAMES-1511] James Server Fails with Thunderbird

Description

I have James Server set up and am testing it with thunderbird. I can use thunderbird to do a POP mail fetch and get messages from the mail box. But I am unable to send a message out. The smtpserver.log is showing the following:

ERROR 22:30:10,963 | james.smtpserver | Id='18182349' User='' AUTH method PLAIN failed from steve@173.160.128.233
ERROR 22:30:11,153 | james.smtpserver | Id='18182349' User='' AUTH method LOGIN failed from steve@173.160.128.233

I am configured with a user account on the server as [e-mail].
