Create initial subscriber list for OFBiz lists, using input from OFBiz project

    Details

      Description

      Hi,

The OFBiz guys will need to move their subscribers over to the newly created lists (thanks for taking care of that!). This will need to be coordinated with them so that a time window is found when they can generate the list of subscribers, send it, and then have the new lists 'go live'. Also, I imagine the subscriber list can just be a .txt file with a list of email addresses - is that correct?

      Thanks,
      Dave

could have sworn I commented on this...

a plain text list is fine if that's how it is moved forward.

I'm not sure about this short of cutover. That means basically turning off the old lists and it will cause some confusion, won't it? I thought usually incubating projects basically let people come over as they wanted.

Moving to new lists will most likely cause some confusion, yets, but that's unavoidable isn't it? Better to do it in one swift step rather than bits and pieces at a time - having two lists in use at the same time (well, four, really, because OFBiz has a users and a dev list) would be confusing. At least that's my take on things.

Also...how about list archives? What can be done about those?

        Thankyou,
        Dave

I can be available to do this if you want to set up a time to meet on IRC. I'm at +11 GMT (AEDST).

I don't know about list archives - I suspect they usually aren't moved, but would have to defer to someone with more experience here. Maybe the question should be posted on general@incubator.

Okay, I have a tgz file with the subscriber lists for the current OFBiz subscribers.

I'm guessing it's probably best not to attach it here, people might not appreciate that. Who can I send it to, ie who can auto-subscribe the addresses in the files? They are simple text files with one email address per line.

David, I can help with this (brett@apache.org). If you'd prefer to do this over IRC (#asfinfra on freenode) or an instant messenger (brettporter on yahoo and skype) that's fine too as we can make sure it is done in close timing.
