      Description

      Hi,

The OFBiz project has been accepted for incubation at the ASF. They have an existing JIRA system that will need migration to the ASF.

I'm opening this ticket so that the OFBiz people have a place to write to. They will need to add more information here before any action happens.

Is it possible to set up Jira to send email notifications to one of the OFBiz project's lists (ofbiz-dev@incubator.apache.org is the most appropriate, I guess)?

        Thanks,
        Jacopo

I just sent a message to the OFBiz dev list about this. We will need the other OFBiz developers to have the same permission, and it looks like David Welton or someone else with Jira admin permissions will have to add them. In other words, the permission I now have is sufficient for managing issues in OFBiz, but I can't add other users to the developer group or anything like that, which should really be fine. There aren't very many people with this sort of permission on the current server, so it shouldn't be a big administrative load.

I added David Jones to the ofbiz developers group on JIRA. If that's not enough to manage it, let us know.

        Henri or David W.,

If you can at least add me (jonesde) and the other developers (may have to gather their user names...) to the ofbiz-developers group then I'll make the announcement about the change and remove the permissions for creating new issues in our current Jira system.

If it's all the same, can we add David E. Jones to the admin group as well? He and the other OFBiz guys are the ones who will eventually ending up running the OFBiz jira system day-to-day.

Sorry for the delay - round-robinning on various different things. :)

OfBiz project created. I've added you to jira-administrators so you can manage adding the developers. There's an ofbiz permission scheme and an ofbiz-developers group.

Close the issue if all is good.

        Henri,

We've discussed this a bit and decided it would be best to just start with an empty project on the ASF Jira server. We'll put all new issues there and keep existing issues on our current server (but not allow any new ones on our current server, easy through the Jira permissions).

If that could be arranged it would be great.

Thanks for your help on this,

Jacopo, migration-wise, we don't have the resource to run another Jira on the issues.apache.org machine. Cayenne, ActiveMQ and Struts are using up the available space.

Would you still like the OFBiz project created in Jira so you can create new issues in it?

We're okay to go ahead with the migration now. It's probably best to coordinate on irc (irc.freenode.net #asfinfra) or via icq (326266423).

        Hi Jeff,

(I'm one of the OFBiz's committers) for now would it be possible to set up at least the new project OFBiz in Jira so that it is possible to create new issues in it? We can cope with the issue migration at a later time.

        Thanks,

        Jacopo Cappellato (jacopoc)

        David,

Perhaps you could download a copy of JIRA 'Standalone' (built-in hsql db), load the data into it, delete everything not relating to OFBiz, and create an export?

        Jeff,

Thanks for your reply and thoughts on this. I think I see what you are getting at, and perhaps with this constraint it would be best to keep it on our own server for now. One problem with doing a full export is that this is actually the Jira instance of Undersun Consulting LLC which currently hosts (with the help of Contegix and others) the OFBiz resources, and so we (Undersun) have private data in non-public projects for clients. In other words, the OFBIZ project on our Jira server is just one of many...

We could perhaps do the "backup" export and just pull out the data we want by hand. Because Jira is based on the Entity Engine we should be able to hook in a more generic import for this data and just make sure that the keys don't conflict and such. This would be quite a bit of work though...

I'll open a discussion on the OFBiz mailing lists and propose that because of the issue with moving the data for just one project that we wait to move the OFBiz Jira issues over until later, after we can get some help from Atlassian or someone to find an easier way to do this.

Webwork and (IIRC) JRoller are in the same situation. For now, the best solution is for us to set up a parallel Jira instance on issues.apache.org/ofbiz. Then at some point in the future, the OFBiz Jira can be merged into the main ASF Jira, and URLs preserved with a redirect. As an added benefit, if incubation goes Horribly Wrong you can have your data back intact ;)

David, if you can scp a Jira export to people.apache.org, I can set up issues.apache.org/ofbiz/.

I looked in our Jira admin area and found an option to backup the entire database but I don't see any option to export the issues for just one project there. We have a number of projects, mostly private, on our Jira server. Any recommendations on how to move our issues here?

If anyone has any recommendations that would be great. I guess if not we have some contacts at Atlassian and can see if we can get some help there.
