Inactive or redundant mailing lists removal request

    Details

      Description

Many mailing lists among the existing ones for the Apache Tcl projects have now little traffic. We talked on the PMC list about this with and we determined to adopt a more rational policy and keep only the lists active or related to projects actively developed/maintained.

Thus we would like that only these 3 lists be preserved (within parenthes the email of the PMC members we want to be the moderators and their role in the project)

      rivet-dev@tcl.apache.org (mxmanghi@apache.org: Apache Tcl Chair)
websh-dev@tcl.apache.org (ronnie.brunner@netcetera.com: Websh developer and PMC member)

I think we can keep the current settings for

      site-cvs@tcl.apache.org

which archives the changes done to the Wiki, while cvs-websh traffic could be archived with websh-dev, as it's done for rivet-dev

      thanks

<danielsh> While at it, note that (a) it's recommended to have 2-3 moderators per list, (b) what should be done with any existing buildbot/jira/wiki/commit notifications sent to lists that you're asking to close ?

yes, I do confirm, only the lists (private,rivet-dev,websh-dev,site-cvs) are be preserved. We agree that having at least 2 moderators per list is a sensible setting. The revised list of moderators is

        rivet-dev: mxmanghi@apache.org, oehhar@apache.org
        websh-dev: ronnie.brunner@netcetera.com, mxmanghi@apache.org

I don't know anything about site-cvs and private, but I presume they're not moderated lists and are open only to subscribers.

<danielsh> All private@ lists are moderated, who do you think approves subscription requests? :)

sorry, my personal understanding of the term 'moderated' was different. I meant 'private' list as opposed to 'moderated' list when a list drops the traffic from non subscribers without bothering a 'moderator' for approval
