      Description

Currently Hive CLI runs the client side code (compilation and metastore operations etc) in local machine. We should extend CLI to connect to Hive server and execute commands remotely.

      Benefits include:

      • client side memory requirement is alleviated.
      • better security control on Hive server side.
      • possible use of metastore cache layer in Hive server side, etc.

Cool. I should have searched the JIRA first. Are you working on this right now?
