Concise error message when attempting to connect to ZK on the wrong port

    Description

      If we try to connect to ZK running on the wrong port, we generate a lot of spew: http://gist.github.com/434943. It would be good to catch this case and suggest to the user why things may have gone wrong (e.g. you've tried to connect to the wrong port for ZK) and how to check if ZK is actually running on that port (e.g. echo 'ruok' | nc localhost 2181)
