Just trying to outline the changes that needs to be done in all the above

http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/web-application-for-ejb-access.html- Not sure what we need to modify. If this one is modified than probably we may have to modify the other tutorials as well because all the other tutorial use Eclipse and GEP for development.

When making updates to the documentation we should probably remove references to the "ant script" we've been using for the past couple of releases. It was originally created for when the end-user had to manually download 5 prereqs from eclipse.org, and was a useful tool for speeding up those downloads. However, now that we have only a single prereq it just seems to cause more confusion relative to any benefits it provides.....

I have added each of the tasks that can be performed with/for GEP as a FAQ. There is a new page I have added for each FAQ. Are there any space constraints in our wiki. If yes I would modify few of them to be included in one single page.
Also please suggest if there are some other FAQ's which you can think of.

Looking forward, Ganymede and J6 make a lot of sense. P2, the install manager of Ganymede, is particularly buggy. Other than that, no bugs I am aware of. I think using these make sense. If/As you encounter problems, report them in the usual manner, and we'll all work to fix them. I guess this is the best way to go.

Also regarding the test do they no longer run by default. Do we have to append "-Ptestsuite" to make the test run.

Cool! This is looking very good, Ashish! I like it. I have made some edits.

I also like the way we can post "requests for doc", and you can make the changes. Is there anyway to formalize this tracking process to help us, or shall we just use a JIRA or two for each release?

      The changes I see:

      1. Need to update for 2.1.3
      2. For bug reporting, I added a step about checking to see if a bug already existed, but that should probably be better done like your other earlier info boxes.
      3. For 2.1.3, I think we can add a third install option of using updatesite.zip
      4. I don't like deployable.zip, especially for Ganymede. I think you have to use a special hot-deploy directory. May want to discuss this a bit, and discourage this option for ganymede.
      5. At bottom of screen, show a screen shot of clicking the big-G button!

      Thanks again Ashish!

And, we need to put the http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/development-environment.html#Developmentenvironment-InstallingGeronimoEclipsePlugin section on its own wiki page. What I want is a set of eclipse wiki pages for each release. We can create a set for the upcoming GEP 2.1.3 now. The server is getting ready to release 2.1.3, and we want to release GEP 2.1.3 as soon after that as possible, if not concurrently. For GEP 2.1.3, we are down to one feature that provides both the v20 and v21 server adapters. So, the installation will change. We'll also ship updatesite.zip, and need install instructions for it. As part of the release process, a staging site is created, and install instructions are needed so folks can test the new release for voting purposes. I want to have the install instructions in the wiki, and they may as well be the final doc version, as much as possible. Tim has done a great job on this in the past, and I figure we might as well have this doc be production level. My idea is that we my not have the right screen shots, but the text would be correct. Ashish, if you can create the GEP 2.1.3 pages, I can update the install text, and you could add the screen shots. Or, you could take a shot at the all of it! Tim is updating the nightly build script to ftp the build to http://people.apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/unstable/2.1.3/. This structure will mimic the production site http://apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/. So http://people.apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/unstable/2.1.3/2.1.3 will contain release notes and the deployable and updatesite zip files. http://people.apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/unstable/2.1.3/updates will be the update site, which will be the updatesite.zip file extracted.

What I want is a set of eclipse wiki pages for each release. We can create a set for the upcoming GEP 2.1.3 now. The server is getting ready to release 2.1.3, and we want to release GEP 2.1.3 as soon after that as possible, if not concurrently. I have created a couple of wiki pages. The main page will be How to install Geronimo Eclipse Plugin, at http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/GMOxDOC21/How+to+install+Geronimo+Eclipse+Plugin. My plan is to have version-specific versions of this page. I split out the install instructions from http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/development-environment.html#Developmentenvironment-InstallingGeronimoEclipsePlugin to a v2.1.0 page. This is linked to from the previous releases section of our main devtools page, http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/apache-geronimo-development-tools-project.html. The main How to install Geronimo Eclipse Plugin also has a link back to the previous releases section. I have created a v2.1.2 and v.2.1.3 page. For RC voting, I will refer to the v2.1.3 page: http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/GMOxDOC21/How+to+install+Geronimo+Eclipse+Plugin+v2.1.3. When the voting is approved, I will copy the contents of this v2.1.3 page to the main page. The v2.1.2 page will be added to the previous releases section.

Yikes! What is this page: http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/quick-start-fast-and-easy-development.html#Quickstart-fastandeasydevelopment-InstallingGeronimoEclipsePlugin

      Too many pages....

I updated the release notes with 213 install instructions page in rev 692512.

Ted, Somehow I could not follow up with this JIRA, apologies for that. Can you please suggest what else needs to be done to update the docs for 2.1.3 level? Thanks!!

      I would say two things:

      1. Review the v2.1.3 page: http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/GMOxDOC21/How+to+install+Geronimo+Eclipse+Plugin+v2.1.3 against http://people.apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/unstable/updates/ as the update site, and http://people.apache.org/dist/geronimo/eclipse/unstable/2.1.3 as source of updatesite and deployable .zip files, and make sure the instructions are correct.

      2. See if any of the other eclipse doc/pages need to be updated, altho I suppose this should wait until GEP 2.1.3 is actually released?

      Thanks!

Made some minor updates to the page http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/GMOxDOC21/How+to+install+Geronimo+Eclipse+Plugin+v2.1.3. There are few screenshots which needs to be updated which still reflect 2.1.2 which can only be done once we have 2.1.3 released. They are #5 and #7 in "Installing GEP within WTP" section, #6 in "Installing GEP using Eclipse update manager".

Other than this, if we wish to show G v2.1.3 with GEP v2.1.3, than we may have to create a copy of existing V2.1.2 pages and modify the screenshots which currently displays G V2.1.2.

Also I would like to suggest that we create a page which may have links for V2.0, V2.1, V 2.1.2 and V2.1.3 on it and user can select which version he wants to navigate. This page can be directly linked to development tools on http://geronimo.apache.org.

There is a problem the docs are not visible in the link http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/.

      Thanks

Yes, we'll have to get hooked in with http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/ . I think there some folks doing doc, like offering to copy 21 doc to 22. If they don't respond here, we'll have to try a separate note to the dev list, I guess referencing our discussion in this JIRA. I think you had a good idea of one GEP doc JIRA per release. We should probably do that going forward. This one I guess will cover 2.1.2 and 2.1.3...

In terms of a separate page, I was thinking of this section on the main page: http://cwiki.apache.org/GMOxDOC21/apache-geronimo-development-tools-project.html#ApacheGeronimoDevelopmentToolsProject-PreviousReleases

Also see this comment and link at the top of http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/GMOxDOC21/How+to+install+Geronimo+Eclipse+Plugin
This page describes how to install the current release of the GEP. For information about installing previous releases, see this page.

      Thanks,

Yes the section on previous releases can be added in each of the gep docs in an incremental order as in
V2.1 can have links to V2.0
V2.1.2. can have links to V2.0 and V2.1
      V2.1..3 can have links to v2.0., v2.1 and v2.1.2
      and so on.

In addition to these adding one page on the top of all these will further increase the usability of our docs and user will find everything at one place. And he may not have to navigate to V2.1 first to find doc link for V2.0. This can be something like the G download which enlist all the version on one single page.

      Thanks
