We need to discuss / research:

1. if using maven is advantageous (generally sense is yes, currently).
2. if any dependencies we need aren't available in any of the public repos.
3. if any ant build tasks require new maven mojos to be developed.
4. how / if this impacts build artifacts or hudson builds.
