Description

For some of our advanced users, it is required for them to use their own HTTP client implementations for remote function invocations.

Towards that end, we'd like to support a generic way to plugin custom implementations, with the HTTP client being one of the initially supported extensions.

This includes a few separate sub-tasks that will be added under this ticket.
