Description

A number of improvements make it time to release the next version on the 1.4 branch. Some highlights include:

• Fixed some slowness in the column family filtering (ACCUMULO-516)
• Grouped RFile index blocks for better performance (ACCUMULO-550)
• Propagated BatchScan statistics to the monitor page (ACCUMULO-561)
• Fixed problem where master fails to fully load instances with a large root tablet (ACCUMULO-542)
• Improved username/password handling in MapReduce jobs using Accumulo input and output formats (ACCUMULO-489)
• Many more to be found in this list of tickets.

Before the release, perform the following tests for quality assurance:

1. Run the functional test suite.
   • found ACCUMULO-621 which will not be fixed in this release
2. Run the continuous ingest test over at least a 12 hour period, and verify results.
3. Run the random-walk tests over at least a 12 hour period.
