In the French translation of the description of the __char function we see

Caractère numérique Unicode (décimal or 0xhex)

Fix with this encoding using I18NEdit:
+char_value=Caract\u00E8re num\u00E9rique Unicode (d\u00E9cimal or 0xhex)

(not exactly your patch)
