Can someone please update the property task documentation in the manual to make note of this functionality. It is not readily apparent from the documentation that is actually supports the XML format. This might save others from backing into it from the bug like I did ...

Yes, you are correct, the manual changes were not backported to ant 1.7 branch.
I have done that now, so if a new 1.7 release is made, this will make it into the 1.7 manual. It is likely however that the next release of ant will be from the trunk - 1.8.

Marking as fixed - in svn but not on the ant manual web page which only has the last released ant version.
