Description Darxus 2011-09-13 19:04:52 UTC
Please change "Previous Released version, 3.2.5" to add something like (not recommended since 2008), on http://spamassassin.apache.org/downloads.cgi
Comment 1 Darxus 2011-09-13 19:06:04 UTC
Maybe "Please don't use this, no updates since 2008" would be better.

Agreed.

The PMC agreed to this Release schedule and we need to update
http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/ReleaseGoals
and likely add verbiage or a link on downloads.cgi.

The following schedules for Release and Support are now Official. They were purposefully kept short & simple to have goals the project could live up to without overstretching our manpower.

I feel the project will benefit from these scheduled releases and this schedule is realistic and allows for volunteers to avoid major holidays and summertime.

Release Schedule:

The Apache SpamAssassin project goal is to produce three major or minor
release per year with release candidates proposed on or closely to January
30th, April 30th, & September 30th of each year.

Release Support:

A major release is supported for no less than 6 months after the release of
the next major release. This means that as of July 27, 2010, all versions
prior to 3.3.0 are considered unsupported and when 3.4.0 is released, 3.3.X
will be supported for at least 6 more months.

KAM

ReleaseGoals is updated.

Aside: If the idea of announcing the dates was to have dates evenly spread across the year, shouldn't the schedule be January, MAY, and September (i.e. a consistent 4 months apart)? With Jan., April, and Sept., that's 3, 5, and 4 months separating them respectively. ...OR am I missing something?

I proposed the dates and the idea was not to evenly spread the dates but instead to avoid major holidays, etc. so the dates would be realistic and allow for the most amount of hands on deck.

My thought process was to avoid Nov/Dec/Early Jan due to Holidays, avoid May due to college finals/end of summer holidays, and avoid Jun/Jul/Aug due to Summer.

I also picked late April to try and avoid most spring breaks and Easter.

Anyway, it's a step forward and one that I think will help!

KAM

It was? http://spamassassin.apache.org/downloads.cgi still looks like 3.2.5 would be entirely reasonable to run.
