The protocol documentation here https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/A+Guide+To+The+Kafka+Protocol#AGuideToTheKafkaProtocol-ErrorCodes should indicate that error 9 (ReplicaNotAvailable) can be safely ignored on producers.
