Maybe if the link went to a dedicated training/support page on the wiki instead of directly to a commercial vendors site.
Sounds good to me. There is already a wiki that lists support vendors, so that shouldn't be on the front page.
However, free training videos seem reasonable on the front page. If a second organization starts hosting training videos, we should probably pull it off to a specialized page. I don't think a wiki is necessary or even a good idea. (We don't really want to turn it in to a wild west of wiki changes.) I agree with Owen it is reasonable to have training and tutorial videos on the front page.
but after watching a training video, I would expect to know how to use the application I was just trained on. this video does not meet that expectation. I suspect calling this video a "Training" video is just a unfortunate choice of words and not some attempt at getting better google search results. regardless, it comes off more like a presentation on Hadoop, yes this is just semantics to some degree. but I wonder if the actual content is something worthy of being on the front page vs a video showing how to use Hadoop (like a screencast or something you typically see). Tom, wow! That was fast! Shouldn't we give the community more time to discuss such a delicate issue? I'm concerned about the neutrality of hadoop here. It would be much better to link a hadoop introduction video from the apache conference. At least linking to Vimeo and not directly to a specific vendor would be a good sign.
surprised the obvious compromise to add the 'nofollow' tag hasn't been suggested yet.
fyi, it takes a Silver sponsorship to have the 'nofollow' tag removed when being linked as a ASF sponsor. I chatted with Tom and we discussed two alternatives:
The Forrest DTD does now accept rel, and lots of other Forrest-generated sites seem to use it, so I'm not sure why this fails. In any case, I managed to force it through with this patch. It'd be better to figure out where the wrong DTD is getting picked up.
