MS have a document and some stylesheets for converting WordXML to XSL-FO.

Could be useful.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/odc_wd2003_ta/html/OfficeWordWordMLtoXSL-FO.asp

-----------------

Alternative approach, which works for all version of MS Office, is to use OOo as a server to convert to OOo and then use the OOo plugin.

Under wich license is the code?

I have no idea, I just saw this on the Cocoon list and stuck it in here as a memory jogger.

It is worth noting that i do have a plugin for Forrest that uses OOo to convert MSOffice files and then uses our OOo plugin to convert to XDoc. I can't make this available via Apache hardware as the license for some required jars from OOo is not compatible. However, if anyone has the time to start a plugins project on sourceforge and make this one available there under a suitable license I would be more than happy to make the code available.

I've been meaning to do it for a long time, but I'm afraid it is pretty low priroty. Hopefully this issue will help root out someone willing to be do this.

I have a local plugin that uses OOo to convert the MS Word document to OOo and then uses the OOo plugin to convert to Forrest. It works, but it as code in it that cannot be committed to Forrest due to license issues.

I am willing to donate this code to anyone who needs it (under the most permissive license legally possible - which will be Open Source), even more willing if they would provide a home for it at somewhere like Sourceforge.
