I do not like "new" in names that much, because after some time, the thing is not that much new anymore. And what if the new one is replaced by an even more new provider? Maybe you find a name which really describes what the difference between the two implementations is (you should know best).
well, those two providers are doing exactly the same thing. Twix is just faster than Snickers (x8).
So I don't know if I can find a name that describe this improvment ;) The best solution could be to keep code names like : - snickers-ldap-provider - twix-ldap-provider - snacc-ldap-provider

this was changed but then all were deleted anad integrated into the ldap shared library

snickers-provider and twix-provider may not be the most user-friendly and accurate name. These two projects provides LDAP support using two different implementations snickers and twix. So for simple names, I would go with emmanuel's names (maybe w/o apache in the name) ):
(apache-)ldap-provider
(apache-)new-ldap-provider or (apache-)ldap-provider-ng
