Description alexander dosher 2005-02-25 05:55:19 UTC
Section "(4) Advanced Configuration - Multiple Tomcat 4 Instances" in tomcat-
4.1-doc/RUNNING.txt is the *only* place that the use of the CATALINA_BASE
directory and its subdirectories is discussed - and this info is missing
entirely from the tomcat-5.5-doc tree. This is can cause unnecessary googling
for users who (like me) have either not touched Tomcat in a while or are new to
it and starting with 5.*. This info should be *somewhere*, perhaps tomcat-5.5-
doc/setup.html.

ok, the RUNNING.txt file still exists in the .zip installer - but *not* in
the .exe. and even so this info shouldn't be restricted to a text file anyway
IMHO - should be in amongst the real docs.

Added clarifying comments and references/instructions for RUNNING.txt into
setup.html.

This is still NOT clear at all, and the reason is simple to fix -- the Release
Notes state : "Make sure to read the "RUNNING.txt" file in this directory if you
are using J2SE 1.4." but the directory structure of the archives does not match
that of all the directories from which the Release Notes are visible.

It would eliminate confusion if the phrase "in this directory" were changed to:
"in the fulldocs downloadable file(s)". In my opinion this is not worth
re-opening the bug, except to correct this confusion for all future users.
Comment 4 Yoav Shapira 2005-07-22 15:07:58 UTC
Done.
